Flags made from the colours of the earth flew in the sky above this year’s Kehelland Apple Day, and will enliven many more celebrations to come.
Inspired by the iron rich soil and using locally sourced earth pigments and plant dyes, these flags are a truly local banner for Kelhelland. Free flag-making workshops, led by community textile artist Hazel McGregor, took place in September. Then on Apple Day itself, visitors to the festival got involved in designing, dying, printing and appliquie techniques to create the sails that crown the Cornish orchard.
