Creative Kernow
Studio 4 kept people moving through Lockdown through a series of activities. Founder Alice Walker tells us more.
Studio 4, home of 4FS Youth Dance is a community dance organisation that is partnership with Cornwall College and works with many young people and families across Cornwall. It was so important to us that we kept the dancers and families we worked with and people in our area active and connected during the lock down.
With the help of Feast funding we were able to set up a full online dance programme and support dancers and families getting online and staying active. We had over 80 dancers and families participating in our virtual activities, these also included Bingo nights in, family quizzes and creating our video (see it here).
We wanted to give them all something to work towards and for us still to celebrate how amazing they all are.
As we are now in another lockdown we continue all things virtual by staying active, connected and being creative. Thanks to further Feast and Cornwall Community Foundation funding we will be initiating Studio 4 Positive Post, sending post to dancers, families, and people in our area making sure they know they are not alone and giving them fun activities to keep them going, creative and most importantly happy.

“Right from the beginning of lockdown Alice and studio 4/4FS Youth Dance have been there for all of us a friendly familiar fun face giving us an infectious burst of daily energy. This has helped us get going and provided a flexible structure for us around home school and work etc. Lockdown at times has been hectic and tiring. however, dance completely takes your mind away and you focus. The challenges have got us thinking in a different way and will be one of the positive memories of all this.ps even got older brother out dancing”

Studio 4 was established in 2008 by Alice Walker with the aim to make dance accessible to all in Cornwall and beyond. We believe that dance itself can make a huge difference to young people’s life’s helping them to learn transferable skills that will benefit them throughout their life.
