Creative Kernow, based at Krowji, is the umbrella organisation for the following nine projects. Together we support the production, promotion and distribution of work by creative practitioners in Cornwall because we believe in creativity's transformative power and want more people to benefit from it.

FEAST, making great art happen across Cornwall

(+/-)

“(+\-)” is a stack of 10 books which have been buried inside each book is a device which translates the electric impulses from each soil type to produce an individual musical tone, each device also has a sample of spoken word text from each book giving the soil “a voice”.

The different soil types produce different sound qualities and effect the voice sample in different way, indicating the soil health.

“(+\-)” is interactive as visitors will be invited to place soil samples on to the books so the sounds change , creating an empathic bridge to the materials and concept of eco-grief, climate change and food production.

The circle of books will be a choir/ orchestral noise filling the gallery with its presence and identity of own health.

The work is supported by FEAST , Cornish Gems , Creative UK , Arts Well and Telemark Art Museum, BritishCouncil, The British Embassy in Norway, The British-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce Oslo.

The themes of the project “(+\-)” seeks to present an issue that problematizes and explores food production within a theme and an expression related to soil, growth, sustainability and human contact.
