Carefree is a youth work charitable organisation working with children and young people in, and leaving, care. This project looked at some long term answers to how they could make the arts a core part of the Carefree programme. Firstly, young people in care aged 11-17 were given the chance to experience a range of creative activity first hand, including music, film, visual art and creative writing. Having been inspired to take part, the aim was then to recruit a whole cohort of young people to become Carefree Arts Leaders. As Arts leaders they will go on to encourage and support others to take part in creative activity and events, and play a key role in planning and developing Carefree’s future arts programme.
