Now in its 19th year, the event marks the start of the Christmas festivities in Truro and involves 800 children, 20 schools and around 30,000 spectators each year.
This year crowds enjoyed a new, colourful spectacle as the work of digital artists were incorporated into the giant paper and withy lanterns, lighting them from inside. The schools were encouraged to be part of the digital adventure by documenting the making of their lantern creations and making an archive using film, time lapses and stories generated by social media.
