The Cornwall Skills Show 2019 took place at Wadebridge Show Ground on the 19th of March and was organised by Cornwall Careers Hub.
3,000 students engaged with around 200 businesses, all with the aim of increasing the awareness of young people about the opportunities available to them and shining a light on the positive developments occurring in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
‘Space and Aerospace’ is a fast growing and exciting sector area which, through FEAST funding had the Meteor Pod as part of their exhibit.
Designed to look like a large meteor embedded in the ground “The Pod” is a wonderful pop-up cinema, in which students watched short films inspired by the ideas around Space and Deep Time. The projector was hooked up to a Raspberry Pi which was connected to a Cosmic Ray sensor, each Cosmic Ray detector lit up the computer and changed the film showing. The short films shown were made when Filmmakers responded to a call out for ideas by Mayes Creative, as part of its Dark Skies: Bright Stars programme.
