Newquay is famous for its golden sandy beaches, world class surfing and its historic harbour from which the town got its name. Podcast producer Karen Pirie is working with staff and volunteers at the Newquay Heritage Archive and Museum to unlock stories of the town, held in the museum’s intriguing and eclectic collection. We will hear about the very beginnings of surfing in Newquay making the town the home of British surfing; and the history of gig rowing – on boats used by smugglers and heroes alike – which today is a thriving and energetic sport enjoyed across Cornwall. Watch this space to find out how you can hear these and other stories in our new podcast series and visit www.newquayoldcornwall.org.uk to find out more about the museum’s collection.
