For a two year period, poet Dylan Thomas was a frequent visitor to Cornwall but little is known of what filled the young poet’s time, other than, in July 1937, he brought the woman he loved to the register office in Penzance, where they married.
In 2015 Jak Stringer unearthed an unpublished biography written by a young rooky reporter, on The Cornishman Newspaper, called Joe Martin, who befriended Dylan Thomas and recorded the adventures that the two young men experienced during their friendship.
The ‘Dylan Thomas in Cornwall’ project will set up a series of events to share the stories from the memoir, mixed with local newspaper reports of the time, to bring a taste of what it was like to be a young person in Cornwall, pre-World War 2,using a combination of contemporary live performance, film and original music.
