Huhtamaki Wab has recently exhibited installations that mix sculpture, textile works with sound elements that can be performed by one or more players. At Exeter Phoenix he exhibited an installation that featured gongs within a bamboo structure that also incorporated textiles and clay works. With his current show at Mirror Gallery, Plymouth College of Art, he has created porcelain bowls that sit amongst textile embroideries that can be played as a musical instrument. Huhtamaki proposes to work alongside the students of St Stephens Primary to create a sound sculpture/installation for the music room. Developing through play, discussion and creativity we will think about what textures and sounds we would like to use and what form the sculpture will take. In the final session we will be able to play, listen and enjoy our creation and discuss our feelings and thoughts about it.
