Charlotte Bister shares with us how FEAST funding helped ‘Owdyado Theatre create an exciting project during Lockdown.
When the first lockdown happened, we were in the middle of a tour of our stage show “Twisted Tales Vol.2”. Having to cancel the tour two weeks in was very disappointing and after a couple of weeks of being stuck at home, just for something to do, we decided to record ourselves reading some classic ‘twisted tales’ like The Monkey’s Paw and The Signalman. This turned out to be really enjoyable and kept us sane in the early days of the lockdown.
When the FEAST Re:Ignition opportunity came along we applied for funding towards running a UK-wide writing competition and commissioning some original short scripts from the top ten. These went onto became the ‘Twisted Tales in Lockdown!’ audio dramas.
The project has been great for us, it’s introduced us to some brilliant new writers from across the UK, taught us skills in audio production and kept us creative in a time where our live work has to be on pause.
